What you didn’t see on Season 2 of The White Lotus: the Top Reasons why you should consider Sicily for your Destination Wedding

Did the global sensation, The White Lotus, have you intrigued about this magical, seemingly untapped, wedding destination called Sicily? You’re not alone. After a little research, and our principal photographer spending the summer in Sicily and surrounding areas, we’ve curated a list of the top reasons why you should consider Sicily as your engagement or wedding destination.

What to consider when planning your destination wedding in Sicily?

Our first piece of advice, as always, is to ensure that you hire a planner for your wedding experience. Someone who can guide you (read: hold your hand) through making some pretty big decisions leading up to your wedding day. Secondly, Sicily in the summer is HOT. We mean it. In the summer months, temperatures can reach highs that we aren’t necessarily used to in Canada. Therefore, make sure to consider having your ceremony time later in the day. As opposed to a 2:00 PM start, we’d recommend 5:30 or 6:00 PM. Not only will this make sure you and all your guests are a bit more comfortable, but it also means that you will be getting married (and we will be capturing those gorgeous photos) during the beautiful golden hours, later in the day. Alternatively, you could consider a spring or autumn wedding when temperatures are more moderate, and vendors have more availability. (Pro tip: this time of year is often more affordable when it comes to travel costs in and out of Sicily.)

Raise your hand if you’re a history buff! Sicily is home to The Valley of the Temples - the largest and most well preserved ancient Greek temples outside of Athens.

Sicily is the region with the highest concentration of sites that are designated as World Heritage. The Valley of Temples, the Roman Villa of Casale, the Aeolian islands, the Val di Noto, Syracuse and Pantalica and the Sicilian puppets - with a rich mosaic of wonders and masterpieces, Sicily offers a unique cultural landscape. Not only does this make it more enticing for those fascinated by history, but it also gives you extra options for activities and excursions for you and your guests pre and post wedding, or even for you to consider to stay longer as your honeymoon.

Feeling adventurous? How about the site of an active volcano, Mount Etna, as the backdrop for your wedding day?

One of the first one-of-a-kind locations that comes to mind for your destination wedding or engagement in Sicily, Italy is La Fucina di Vulcano. This is an extraordinary venue where couples can host the destination wedding of their dreams. Known for its unconventional and contemporary atmosphere, this gorgeous property features stunning views of Mount Etna and the surrounding countryside.

If you’re traveling all the way to Sicily from North America for your engagement, or wedding, why not make a weekend out of it?

It is common practice in Sicily to rent a venue for 2-3 days to properly celebrate your wedding with your guests. Because let’s be real, is one day ever enough? Many venues in Sicily offer on-site accommodations, which is perfect to host your out-of-town guests for a multi-day event.

Have we talked about the beaches yet?

Post-wedding beach days are big, and it's no wonder why. No matter the vibe you’re going for, whether it be a casual picnic at a remote beach beach in a nature preserve, spending the day at a chic beach club like Baiamuri near Noto, or hosting a luxurious boat party as a welcome or farewell to your guests, the options are endless.

While you patiently wait for season three of The White Lotus to be released (we’re going to miss you Jennifer Coolidge), we hope the above tips will help you in your consideration of beautiful, romantic Sicily for your destination engagement or wedding. We would love to see how we can be a part of your experience.
