Vancouver Engagement Photos on Beautiful Wreck Beach during a Golden Hour Sunset

Hayley & Tyler’s engagement photos: From Toronto to Vancouver, an East meets West sunset photoshoot that was clearly meant to be. Yes, it’s true we are a Toronto Wedding Photography studio, but it’s also true we love a cross country destination.

This day was meant to be, but didn’t start as planned. We had a completely different itinerary for our last day in Vancouver. In fact, we woke up early to drive to Pitt Lake to capture a different couple's photos, when we were sadly met with ominous gray rain clouds, and were forced to cancel. We knew we immediately had to come up with a backup plan - we couldn’t let a little Vancouver rain ruin our day. Luckily another one of our couples, who we had just met the week prior, had the day off and were feeling adventurous. At this point, we didn’t have the time to roadtrip to Pitt Lake, but we remembered hearing about Wreck Beach and decided to check it out. It wasn’t until we arrived that our couple, Hayley & Tyler, told us that this is actually the location of one of their first dates, and it's actually the spot that Hayley knew Tyler was “the one”. See? Meant to be.

Hayley is a fitness instructor, and the curriculum operations manager at Barry’s Canada, therefore the 500 stair climb down to the beach was met with a smile from her. For us on the other hand, with pounds of camera gear on our backs, it was not so easy. Luckily the view once we got to the beach made all the difference. A rare but stunning golden hour sunset peaked through the Vancouver clouds, as the waves of Wreck beach crashed below us. We immediately knew we found the perfect spot for this engagement shoot.

Hayley & Tyler originally met in Toronto, but it wasn’t until Tyler moved back to Vancouver that the couple started dating. They now both live in Vancouver and travelled to Toronto for their wedding day at the end of March, which was beautifully planned by Duet Events at Toronto’s Gardiner Museum. It felt serendipitous that we were able to capture their engagement photos on the beautiful west coast, where their love began, and their Toronto wedding day, where they were surrounded by their family and friends.

Because Hayley & Tyler had classic Toronto wedding, we knew we wanted to capture their engagement photos in an outdoor setting. Vancouver mountains, and water, were a must. Although it was a bit chillier of a day, H&T were brave and took their shoes off to run in the sand, and dip their toes in the water. And we’re so glad they did… What’s better than wind swept beach hair?

After about an hour of shooting at the beach we decided to make the hike back up the 500 stairs to our vehicles. Did we mention Hayley is into fitness? She jumped into action and kept us all motivated. If we thought the adventure down to the beach was tiring, the hike back up was next level. That being said, we had lots of excuses to stop and take breaks in order to capture that one of a kind Vancouver sunset breaking through the trees. Golden hour at its finest. It wasn’t until we were on our drive back to the city that we could finally put down our cameras.

Stay tuned for Hayley & Tyler’s gorgeous downtown Toronto wedding, with photos at locations from the Park Hyatt to the Gardiner Museum.
